Geurt: ‘I enjoy working for a result-driven company’
After completing his bachelor’s in business economics, Geurt van Assen intended to start his master’s in international management. Instead, he landed at the HSO Masterclass, followed by a job as consultant at HSO International. A dynamic role, that involves a lot of travelling and responsibilities, but also excellent opportunities for personal development and growth. In this blog Geurt tells more about his jump start career at HSO.
Geurt, can you give us some insight in your daily work?
‘I am a finance consultant, and in most projects so far I have been responsible for things like data migration, security and finance related processes. My work involves a lot of travelling. I just came back from a project in Tunisia, and next week I will leave to Frankfurt in order to prepare the go-live by executing a mock go-live scenario.
What do you like most about your job?
‘It’s not IT itself that makes my heart tick, but it’s the people side of my work that I value most. Solving the puzzle of business processes and IT and bringing people and IT together. I think one of the most important assets for a consultant is that you enjoy working with people. Communication skills are essential since you need to get along with a lot of different personalities, especially in an international environment. You must keep everyone on board and work as a team to be able to deliver a working product in the end.
I like that you can develop yourself quickly at HSO. I have been on board for almost two years and in the coming year, I will be coaching new trainees and junior consultants in the HSO young potential programme. In this programme they learn more about our way of working, the methodology, and the different aspects of each phase of a project such as executing interviews and gathering requirements at customers and so on. I look forward on the upcoming year.’
How would you describe the atmosphere at HSO?
‘I would say that the culture at HSO International is quite unique. All different backgrounds create a kind of new, shared culture. I would describe this culture as hard working, result oriented, open to help each other, making time to celebrate success and having fun together too.
At HSO, you get a lot of responsibility, right from the start. You are in control of your own development and you get a lot of opportunities to take up tasks and projects. So, if you like to manage your own career and if you’re not afraid of being thrown in at the deep end, HSO International is the place for you.’
Anything you are specifically proud of so far?
‘Since almost every project is quite intense and challenging, I am always proud when a customer goes ‘live’ with his application. It’s actually quite cool to work for customers in the top playing field, worldwide.’
